harness fear

How to Use Fear – What is Fear Actually Good For??

Fear can actually be useful if used properly.

Read the quote below to get an idea how it can be used…

“… fear is… a natural state of discomfort that occurs whenever you’re out of your comfort zone.  It’s not there to sabotage you, but to help you come alive, be more focused, and put you into the present moment and a heightened state of excitement and awareness.  If you push the fear away, the only version of fear available to you will be its crazy, irrational or contorted version.  If you’re willing to feel it, and merge with it, its energy and wisdom will appear.”                                                                                                                                                                                                            – Kristen Ulmer Champion Extreme Skier (from “Tribe of Mentors” by Tim Ferriss)

In other words fear can make you more focused and feel more alive!

Fear can be harnessed and used as a tool.

Fear can be like a drug. A healthy and useful drug.

Fear can be used as a fuel and not a hindrance.

The fear that most people know and refer to is fear that is improperly used.  It is stifled and the fear itself is feared.

Let me repeat:

THE FEAR ITSELF IS FEARED

fear is feared

Fear should be a fuel.  It should be a form of UNCERTAIN EXCITEMENT

The uncertainty and the excitement should cause you to FOCUS

In life FOCUS is everything.

We must focus on the right things and avoid the wrong things.

Even Bill Gates and Warren Buffet agreed that FOCUS is everything.

fear redefined

To use fear properly we must redefine it.  We probably shouldn’t even call it “fear” when it arises due to all of the negative emotions connected to the word.

Instead of “I feel fear/afraid” we should say:

“I FEEL ALIVE!”

“Time to focus!”

“It’s go time!”

“This is what being alive is all about!”

fear as energy

We must rewire our brains for how we respond to “fear”.

We must break our old habits and create newer, better ones.

These new habits will lead to a more rewarding and interesting life.

“Fear” is a trigger for an opportunity for growth.

The same woman, Kristen Ulmer also said:

“Never let a good crisis go to waste.  It’s the universe challenging you to learn something new and rise to the next level of your potential.”

Fear is a sign of such opportunities.

Redefine your fear as useful energy and challenges as opportunities.

Your life will be so much more interesting as a result of it.

redefine fear

Until Next Time, Stay Interesting.

All the best,
