I recently moved to a new place which is why I haven’t posted anything in about a week.
Moving is a lot of work and involves a lot of tasks that need to be done in order to get things in your new place the way they were in your old place.
The overall job takes many days and can be extremely overwhelming. During this process though I realized and remembered the importance of not allowing yourself to be overwhelmed and just to focus on the mission at hand and more specifically the part that you’re doing then and there.
The most important thing to do when faced with a challenging job is to start it. The Amish have a saying that a job that is started is a job half done. Often we put off things that appear daunting or overwhelm us, but beginning is the most important step. Realize that once a job is started it is then smaller than it was before. Maybe after a little work it is 99% of what it was. This is progress.
When feelings of overwhelm build inside of you just relax and focus on the job at hand. Keep your eyes on the road. (Don’t get distracted)
Don’t feel like you have to do everything at once. Just do one step at a time. Figure out which makes the most sense and do that one step. Once you finish it then focus on another step. One step at a time is much less overwhelming than the whole job put together.
When faced with a difficult challenge the best way to complete it is to go straight through it. Don’t procrastinate. Don’t overthink. Just begin it and dive right in.
Have faith. Know that you are on the path to finishing the job and that you are taking action. Relax and have faith knowing that as long as you keep moving forward you will get through it. Maybe you can see the light at the end of the tunnel and maybe you can’t, but know that it is there.
Basically this type of thinking got me through this overwhelming task. I still have more to do, but I am very happy with what I’ve gotten done and best of all how I didn’t let myself become overwhelmed while getting a lot done in a short amount of time. I’ve found when I keep these things in mind that I am more productive and enjoy the process more.
Do these things. Make them a part of how you go through your life.
It’s great to be back on here. Time to unpack some more boxes.
All the best,
D
