About a year or so ago I was exposed to the Wim Hof Breathing Method. I have been using it as a tool in my life ever since.
What is Wim Hof? Or better yet, Who is Wim Hof??
Basically Wim Hof aka “The Iceman” is an interesting Dutch man who is a master at both holding his breath and in surviving and thriving in extremely cold conditions.
He regularly spends hours in Arctic conditions in nothing else but shorts.
He teaches other people how to do this as well.
You can read more about him here: Wim Hoff
The Wim Hof Breathing Method has been shown to:
- Improve Energy Levels
- Strengthen the Immune System
- Detoxify the Body
- Relieve Stress and Tension
The great thing about the method is it only takes approximately one minute to do.
NOTE: Always check with a physician before trying something like the Wim Hof Method of Breathing. This is especially important for those with health problems. You should also sit down, especially your first time using the method since you may become light-headed. You should not use the method while driving or operating machinery.
To do the Wim Hof Breathing Method you take around 20 to 30 fast deep breaths. Basically you hyperventilate. You do this until you feel a little light-headed.
On your last breath you expel all of the air from your lungs and hold your breath.
You hold your breath until it is uncomfortable (How long this is is up to you. Don’t pass out) and then you take a deep breath and hold it in.
You hold this breath in until it becomes uncomfortable and then you start breathing normally again.
Repeat the method one to two times if desired.
Here is a video that I found useful when I first learned the technique:
That’s it! Try it and see how you feel.
I usually feel more energized for a while after using the method.
It is great when you feel you need more energy or to refocus in your day.
Until next time, Stay Interesting…
All the Best,
D
