What would the Most Interesting Man in the World really drink a lot of?
TEA!
Tea is amazing!
Tea is the most widely consumed beverage in the world besides water
Even with the large amount of people in the United States that drink tea, it gets much attention than in many other places.
Why is tea so popular, and why should interesting people look to drink it regularly?
Here are just a few great reasons why you should drink more tea:
- Caffeine – Many teas provides natural caffeine, but in smaller amounts than in coffee. This makes it easier to manage the amount of caffeine that you drink since you can take in less at a time. Tea without milk or sugar also is less acidic and less likely to stain your teeth than coffee. There are so many different types of teas that it really is easy to control your level of caffeine by drinking it. It is also more hydrating than coffee is.
- Hydration – As mentioned above, tea has less of a diuretic effect when compared to coffee and can be a much easier way for the average person to consume more water in their day.
- Antioxidants – Most teas, especially green and white teas are rich in antioxidants. These antioxidants help prevent cell damage that can lead to aging, cancer, reduced immunity to disease and lowered energy levels. Matcha Green tea contains the most antioxidants by volume compared to any other food. This is one reason why people in Okinawa live such long lives.
- Increased lifespan – People that drink more tea and societies that on average drink more tea live longer lives. This is due to the many health benefits of drinking tea.
- Decreased chance of heart disease – People who drink more tea have lowered odds of heart attack or stroke.
- It’s better than other things you can drink – By drinking tea you are less likely to be drinking other unhealthy sugary beverages like soda or fake juices. This can lead to…
- Less fat – By drinking tea instead of unhealthy sugary beverages you are avoiding unhealthy sugars and consuming less calories.
- Stronger Bones – Studies have shown that people that drink green tea regularly have stronger bones.
- Stronger Immune system – As mentioned above, the antioxidants in tea boost your immune system helping you get sick less often and recover faster.
- Lower Cancer Risk – Also mentioned above, the antioxidants in tea help to reduce the risk of developing most cancers.
- Countless other tea-specific benefits – There is a huge and almost unending number of different teas available for different tastes and purposes. There are teas to fall asleep easier. There are teas to aid in digestion or act as laxatives. Different teas give different types of energy separate from caffeine. Other teas can help reduce stress. The benefits of tea are endless.
By now you should be on the tea bandwagon!
Here are some teas that I enjoy:
- Green Tea – This tea is rich in antioxidants, low in caffeine, relatively cheap and widely available. I particularly like Jasmine Green Tea due to the pleasant taste.
- White Tea – White tea is like green tea, but made from the young buds. It is more mild in flavor and contains even more antioxidants than green tea.
- Matcha Tea – Matcha tea is whole dried green tea leaves that are ground up in a powder and mixed with water rather than merely being steeped in it. Matcha tea has more antioxidants than any other food.
- Oolong Tea – Oolong tea is a black fermented tea that has more caffeine than green tea, but less than most other black teas. It shares many of the benefits of green tea. I once met a tea expert in China that said it is particularly good for the throat.
- Pu’erh Tea – This tea is highly oxidized so it has less antioxidants than some of the other teas. It gives energy in a slightly different way though so it couples well when mixed with other teas. The Chinese also credit it as a really good weight loss tea and for being good for the heart.
- Yerba Mate – This South American tea contains caffeine and has other energizing effects.
- Coca Tea – This tea is actually made from the same plant that is used to make cocaine. The legality of it is a grey issue depending on the country you are in and weather or not the trace amount of cocaine molecule is removed from it. It generally is very healthy, provides natural energy and even helps with altitude sickness.
- Kava Tea – This tea helps provide relaxation and stress relief.
- Yogi Caramel Bedtime Tea – This is a specific branded blended tea that contains several ingredients, isn’t too expensive and helps one to fall asleep
- Rooibos Tea – This is a red caffeine-free tea that is popular in Africa and is very rich in anti-oxidants. It is a great healthy alternative to some of the other teas that contain caffeine. It also has a naturally sweet taste.
See for yourself which teas you like best. Try different teas for different purposes. Generally it is best to have tea without any added milk or sweeteners, but see what you enjoy best. That being said, many monks in China add a little sugar to their tea when having it on an empty stomach to make it sit better in their stomachs. Adding honey and lemon to your tea is great for a sore throat. Pouring your tea over ice is a great way to cool down when feeling overheated. The options are endless.
Stay Thirsty… Drink Tea
All the best,
